The Trash Economy is an inventive research project that delves deep into the challenges faced by the recycling industry, waste-management practices and associated policies and regulations. Through a full-spectrum exploration, this project attempts to shed light on the economic viability of recycling while unearthing the multifaceted obstacles hindering the industry’s path to sustainability. Drawing on diverse interdisciplinary perspectives from environmental sciences, economics, and policy analysis, we confront the prevailing assumption that current waste-management practices are sufficient in addressing the pressing issue of waste generation. Instead, we offer fresh insights into innovative approaches and optimal strategies for achieving sustainability.
